Renny’s Travels!

“It’s better to help people than to be like a gnome in the garden.” Amélie

Gnome

There are many wonderful legends about traveling garden gnomes around the world. I first learned of gnoming from the whimsical French movie, Amélie. The short story is that the main character, Amélie, a shy and sheltered young woman, begins to impact the lives of others by secretly manipulating them. One such manipulation is when Amélie steals her dad’s garden gnome and has her flight attendant friend take the garden gnome around the world. Amelie’s friend takes photos of the garden gnome in wonderful locales around the world. The photos inspire Amelie’s father’s imagination – he too leaves his reclusive life and travels for himself.

Bottom line is that with a very simple act, Amelie’ changes the world around her (it takes her longer to change her own world). Her growing generousity does allow Amélie to grow as well!

This garden gnome is going to travel to colleges around the nation. My hope is that he will inspire students at The Springfield Renaissance School to travel themselves to prepare for “Life After Renaissance“. This step into the college process will continue the journey that students at The Springfield Renaissance School have already begun. To gain tools to change themselves and the world!

Note: Some gnome traveling is theft. I am not celebrating or encouraging thieving behavior.

p.s. This garden gnome has finally gotten a name – Renny (short for Renaissance thx to Ms. Cote…)
